History of Magic I: Introduction

History, especially History of Magic, helps the current generation understand what events have happened, what lives have been sacrificed in order for us to be living the way we are today. For example, why we have chosen to live in secrecy among the Muggles (Statue of Secrecy). I personally would like to discover the roots of my family - what events have caused them to start their ‘tradition’. Of course, having said all this, it is important that young witches and wizards like myself are educated about their past - I believe it will help us appreciate all that we have.

As I mentioned above, we all currently live among Muggles, whether they acknowledge our presence or not, most likely the former. And because we live with them, it is vital we understand their ways of life, and their past with wizardkind. Should we find a way cooperate with each other and with the probability of revealing our identity to mankind in the air, knowledge of this history will be beneficial. Though some may not agree with the cooperation of magic folk with Muggles, I feel that as the future comes, it will be the most logical way to further our society and its studies.

So, why do we study History of Magic? From my limited knowledge on the subject, I have conjured up two main reasons of why I think we should be educated in our past:

  1. To understand what had to be done in order for the world to become how it is now

  2. To understand the relationship between wizardkind and Muggles, as well as other magical species
