Odd Ones Out: Part 7
Lysander felt more relaxed when she smiled at him. He wanted to get through to her and let her know that he wasn’t a bad guy. That they probably had more in common than either of them realized.
In response to her question he nodded. “Sure, I mean I can try. I’m not that good at the class, but I wouldn’t mind. I’m a pretty average student overall. I’m sure you’re way brighter than I am.”
In truth, Valeria is not so much curious about the classes - she’s already read some of her brother’s textbooks to get enough sense of what will be learned - as to just talking to the boy. She just doesn’t quite understand how to initiate conversations, other than those regarding their studies - something she is knowledgeable about. And when Lysander speaks of her brightness, she can’t help but beam. On the inside. Many, if not all, of the professors (and students) at Hogwarts consider Valeria to be a very bright witch. Sure, there are others just as intelligent as she is, or even more, but Valeria is definitely up there in the rankings, thanks to her diligent an organized personality. Although she recognizes and embraces her ‘talent’, she is not one to flaunt it, being a humble character.
“Well… who’s to say?” she questions Lysander, shrugging, a slight smirk on her face. At the sound of bells chiming from the old Clock Tower, Valeria remembers that she needs to be someplace, and hops down from the ledge, only to lose her balance over the smooth floors.
Merde.
